Various welfare schemes being run by the Punjab Government are supporting the poor, needy & eligible beneficiaries in a great way. Schemes run by department of social justice & rights and minority departments have also benefited greatly the general public. Under the Ashirwad Scheme being run by the department, Rs 21 thousand are being provided to the beneficiary by the government for the marriage of girls, which proves to be a good support to the eligible family.Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra said that all the welfare schemes of state government are being implemented in the district in true spirit. She said that the amount being provided under Ashirwad Scheme has been increased from Rs. 15000 to Rs. 21000 from July 2017. In this regard, Rs. 1 crore 88 lacs 58 thousand has been distributed to 898 eligible beneficiaries from July 2017 to February 2018. 

The amount thus provided is being directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. Deputy Commissioner further said that the eligible beneficiary under the scheme should be a resident of Punjab State, and the girl child should be less than 18 years of age. She said that the application for the benefit under the scheme could be submitted prior to or post 30 days of marriage and the benefit being provided is limited to two girls of the family.Explaining about this, District Welfare Officer Sukh Sagar Singh said that department is organising various village level camps to generate awareness about the scheme, whereat benefits of the schemes are explained to the general public and their applications are also accepted. He appealed the beneficiaries who fulfil the eligibility criteria to obtain benefit of the scheme. Applications in this regards could be submitted to the office of Social justice, Minority & rights department, at third floor of district administrative complex, SAS Nagar.
