Senior Citizens Hold Protest Against Moves for Abrogation of Article 35

Senior Citizens Civil Society and Traders bodies staged a peaceful protest at Pratap Park Srinagar against moves for abrogation of Article 35.Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on Aug 6 a case about annulment of Article 35A, corner stone of the remaining aspects of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir in the Indian union.Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik also participated in the protest. The protest was led by president. All J&K Pensioners Welfare Association Sampat Prakash who asked people of Jammu and Kashmir to defend any moves meant to “rob Kashmir of its special status enjoyed under Article 370 of the Indian constitution”.The protesters carried banners and placards that read “dismiss PIL on Article 35A” and “Assault on Article 35A is attack on our existence”. The protesters even raised slogans asking India to leave Kashmir.While talking to reporters, Sampath Prakash said Kashmir has suffered heavily at the hands of India and still India is making assaults on us. He said safeguarding Article 35A holds important as it protects constitution of Jammu and Kashmir and various other state laws.Prakash said they will not hesitate sacrificing their lives if this article is abrogated. He said people of Kashmir should not shirk from shedding every drop of their blood for protection of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and any such attempt would have disastrous consequences.Traders from Maisuma Traders Association also participated in this silent protest. General Secretary Traders Association, Nisar Shahdhar said that they will foil the nefarious designs of RSS backed NGO and no verdict against Article 35A will be acceptable. (CNS)
