Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, today said that the administration is fully prepared and ready to meet any eventuality in the backdrop of incessant rains which lashed valley recently.Water level had risen in Jhelum and other water bodies due to the inclement weather conditions. “Now the water level in river Jhelum, its tributaries, and other water bodies are receding and presently the flood threat is over,” the Div Com said.“As per the instructions from the Governor, Divisional Administration made all the requisite arrangements across the valley. A total of 44 relief centres were set up in the district Srinagar where all essential commodities are stocked,” he added.Khan further said that men and machinery of Irrigation and Flood Control are working round-the-clock to keep vigil on the embankments of river Jhelum from Verinag to Baramulla and other nallahs also.Government has deployed an adequate number of dewatering pumps besides army had also provided hi-end pumps which are already deployed in low-lying areas, he said.Div Com also informed that the administration has set up an early monitoring system for floods so that the people residing in low-lying areas can be evacuated immediately.For better disaster management, he said that administration had also met with civil societies, Masjid Committees, GuruduwaraPrabhandak Committees, and volunteers so that the government can effectively address the flood-like situation.Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Srinagar received the brief from the officers of line departments about the arrangements made by them for making ready the Flood Relief Centers established in Srinagar District at a meeting held here this evening in DC office.
