The state of Punjab would put forward a demand before the Union Government to establish small hydro project of 65 Megawatt (MW) on the bhakhra main line.These views were expressed here today by the New and Renewable energy sources Minister, Punjab, Gurpreet Singh Kangar in a review meeting of the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA). The minister divulged that bhakhra main line carries huge potential which needs to be tapped.The minister was also apprised of the New and Renewable energy projects being run by PEDA and brainstormed on the issues to be raised in the meeting of the Union Government on 3rd July at Shimla. He also disclosed that he would demand the incentives from the Union Government regarding the biomass projects to be established in the state. He further added that the capacity of New and Renewable energy in the state has increased to 1600 MW and efforts are on to further multiply its potential.Mr. Kangar directed the PEDA officials to maximize the reach of New and Renewable energy in the state as well as make people aware about its uses. On the occasion, CEO (PEDA) N.P.S. Randhawa said that PEDA has established projects such as canal top solar system, roof top solar system, street lights in the villages, biogas plants, solar pump etc.Among others present included Director PEDA Mr. Balour Singh, DGM Mr. M.P. Singh and senior officers.
