Election Commission completes all preparations for Shahkot by-election : Dr. S. Karuna Raju

1.72 lakh voters will decide the fate of 12 candidates, 1022 personnels of Punjab Police and BSF deputed

Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Dr. S. Karuna Raju said that the Election Commission have been completed all the arrangements in Shahkot constituency for the by poll, which will be held on May 28, 2018.In a press conference at the main election office here today Dr. Raju said that the Election Commission is committed for fair and peaceful election in Shahkot constituency and the staff is working 24 hours a day for this purpose. 1416 personnel of polling staff and 1022 personnel of Punjab police and BSF has been deputed in Shahkot.He said that there are 236 polling stations in the constituency, out of which 103 are covering with webcasting. 80 micro observers have been appointed and they are working as the eyes and ears of the Commission. The entire constituency covered with VVPAT Machines. There are 2201 arms licenses in this constituency, out of which 2005 has been deposited and the remaining weapons will be deposited soon.Chief Electoral officer apprised that cash of 17 lakh 50 thousand have been forfeited and 45,750 ml liquor has also been seized. 

The Star Campaigner can take up to cash of RS One lakh with him, while the ordinary person can’t carry cash of more than Rs 50 thousand with him.He said that 1,72676 voters will decide the fate of 12 candidates in this constituency.Dr. Raju further said that the voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm and polling agents of all political parties have been asked to arrive at polling stations in the morning at 6 am. If no polling agent is reached on time, then polling will be started at 7 am in all cases.He said that dry day has been declared from period of 6:00 P.M. of 26.05.2018 to 6:00 P.M. of 28.05.2018 in the constituency along with adjoining area of 3 Km of the constituency. Voter slips to 95% electors have been distributed so far and the remaining will be distributed by 27 May 2018.Chief Electoral Officer said that there were total 31 complaints received, out of which 30 are of general nature and one is of movement of illegal liquor. 18 complaints have been resolved and remaining will be disposed of soon.Earlier, Dr. S. Karuna Raju also held a meeting with representatives of political parties and apprised them about the whole election process.
