"The Punjab Government is fully committed to make good its promise of delivering the citizen centric services to the people of the state in a transparent and smooth manner so as to ensure that they don't have to make rounds of government offices to avail the same." This was disclosed here today by the Local Government Minister, Punjab, Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu at the Punjab Municipal Bhawan on the occasion of inking of an MoU with e-Governance Foundation (e-Gov) of Mr. Nandan Nilekani regarding the managing of electronic governance of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) throughout Punjab.The minister further detailed that in total 67 services would be provided online within a span of 1 year under 12 modules namely Property Tax, Water & Sewerage Management, Complaints and Grievance, Licensing, Fire Service, Verification, Birth and Death, ULB web portal, Mobile App, State and ULB Dashboards, Payroll and Financial Accounting. Listing other path breaking measures undertaken by the department Mr. Sidhu further revealed that the department has decided with the assistance of the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) to go in for the beautification as well as cleaning of 7 km long Tungdhab Nallah (Amritsar) a project worth Rs. 5 crore and Jamalpur STP along with Budhha Nallah in Ludhiana in the initial phase and after getting successful results, the initiative would be replicated throughout the state. He said that the work on cleaning and beautification of Tungdhab Nallah (Amritsar) would begin before March 16. Divulging more, the minister said that the project worth Rs. 31 crore with regard to budhha nallah would first be presented to the cabinet for necessary clearance. He batted for adopting the model already adopted and executed with aplomb by noted environmentalist Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal in this regard. Mr. Sidhu also elaborated that the Amritsar dump which has been in existence since the past 2 decades would be cleaned up during the course of next 3 years and a scientific study spanning 2 months would be undertaken in this connection. Sounding a warning note to those indulging in environmental pollution, Mr. Sidhu said that those establishments/concerns excreting the untreated water and other waste would be strictly dealt with in accordance with the law.Among others present on the occasion included CEO Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC) Mr. Ajoy Sharma, CEO e-Gov Mr. Viraj Tyagi, Director-Partnerships e-Gov Mr. Bhargava EM, Team Leader/Project Manager cum Urban Infrastructure Expert Lt. Col (Retd.) Manu Chaudhary and Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal.
