Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today reviewed the functioning of Mechanical Engineering Department and directed them to be fully prepared for the forthcoming inclement weather for timely clearance of snow. The meeting was attended by Chief Engineer MED and other officials. The Chief Engineer made a power point presentation about the working, projects and future works of the department. He said that the department has presently 141 snow clearance machines which have been distributed to three zones consisting of South Kashmir, Central Kashmir and North Kashmir.The Div Com directed the officials to keep the machines on standby mode at various locations so that the snow clearance operation will commence in shortest period of time. He also directed them to keep the Control Rooms functional in all areas 24X7 so that people can reach them in times of need. The Div Com said that special attention needs to be paid to the avalanche prone areas. He directed the officials to make a dynamic plan so that there is no complaint of road blockades due to accumulating snow.The Div Com inquired about the projects which MED has completed this year and which are to going to be completed in the next year. He directed the officials to stick to the deadline so as to provide benefit to the people. He assured the officials that space will be provided for parking of men and machinery in Bandipora and encroachments on their property will be removed in Anantnag soon.
