FC Agriculture reviews functioning of CAD

Financial Commissioner (FC) Agriculture, Pramod Kumar Jain, Wednesday chaired meeting to take stock of functioning of the Command Area Development (CAD) Department and review the progress of various ongoing projects sponsored under the CAD programme.The meeting was briefed in detail about the achievements made by the Department and progress so far on various farming projects going on in various districts of the Kashmir Division.It was given out during the meeting that out of the total budget of Rs 6.57 crore, an amount of Rs 4.50 crore stands expended till February 2017, adding that the Department has completed 24 projects and treated an area of 94230 hectares at a cost of 178.92 crore so far. The meeting was informed that 6 projects with cultivatable command area of 103745 hectares are currently ongoing, having treated an area of 25746 hectares treated at a cost of 476.32 lakh till February 2017.During the meeting, threadbare discussions were held on construction of field channels and field drains at various places in the Division to improve irrigation potential utilization and optimize agricultural production from irrigated land through integrated and coordinated approach of efficient water management. On the occasion, the FC directed the concerned officials to put the list of completed projects along with their completion estimated costs on Department’s website. He also directed the officials to prepare the complete record and proper accounting of the developmental works undertaken by the Department.The meeting was also informed that, under the PMKSY scheme, the District Irrigation Plan of 12 districts, including Leh and Kargil, were prepared in consultation with allied departments and submitted to government of India for approval.The FC asked the officials to make the training programmes for the farmers more fruitful. He said proper planning is a must while conducting workshops for farmers, which will lead to better results on the ground level.He stressed upon the officers to maintain the quality of work in the field to improve the production and productivity for the upliftment of socio economic condition of farmers.Director CAD, Deputy Director CAD, Assistant Soil Conservation Officers, Soil conservation Officers, officials of the CAD Department, and other concerned attended the meeting.
