To streamline the functioning of Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), the Minister of State for Transport, Sunil Kumar Sharma, today chaired a review meeting of the department.The officials of the MVD informed the Minister about their current working mechanism and services being provided to the public.The Minister directed the concerned to make department more public centric by bring transparency through online service system. He also directed to launch Vahan 4.0 software services in all the districts.The Minister stressed upon the concerned district officers to conduct regular public awareness camps in Schools, Colleges, and Universities to make people aware about the online registration for availing various services, traffic rules and regulations to reduce accident rate across the state.The Minister exhorted upon the officers to make a plan for identification of land for trail and fitness purposes. He also directed to inspect driving institutes to keep a check on the quality of training being provided by them besides directing regular inspection of pollution checking centers for maintaining efficacy.

Threadbare discussions were made in the meeting regarding the issues including driving test on daily basis, two fitness boards, single window system for fitness, separate service counters for females for depositing requisite documents, launching of online services under Vahan Sarthi 4.0, awareness generation among public for online submission of forms and progress regarding registration at dealer’s point.Similarly, various other issues were also discussed which includes progress in the route rationalization, model wise detail of vehicles which are more than 15 years old, launching of special drive to identify invalid vehicles, initiatives for safety of candidates/staff during driving trail, progress in re-organization of MVD, establishment of Institute of Driving Training and Research, Inspection and Certification Centre and installation of CCTVs in RTO and ARTO offices.Besides other issues discussed in the meeting were introduction of GPS/speed governor and smart card, implementation of goal chart, uniform of drivers/conductors for private transport, status of Public Service Guarantee Act, CM’s grievance cell, status of court cases and holding of district road safety committee meetings.The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary Transport, Himant Kumar Sharma, Transport Commissioner, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmed, Joint Transport Commissioner, Vikas Sharma, Regional Transport Officer Jammu, Ashwani Khajuria, RTO Kathua, Amarjeet Singh, Deputy Secretary Transport Department, Rajeshwar Singh Charak and other officers of Jammu Province.
