Counting of votes to assembly elections 2017 started today at 8.00 am and for the constituency SAS Nagar, Dera Bassi & Kharar complete counting process remains flawless & accomplished with peace. Elaborating this District Electoral Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Sh. D. S. Mangat said that all requisite arrangements were already ensured for successful completion of vote counting. He also thanked the counting staff for their patience & dedication towards accomplishment of counting process and also thanked people for maintaining peace during entre counting process.Sh. Mangat said that complete transparency was ensured for the entire counting process in the presence of candidates and party agents. For all the three constituencies namely SAS Nagar, Dera Bassi & Kharar, 3 different counting centers were established and the counting process was conducted under strict supervision of returning officer concerned and during the entire counting process observers deputed by election commission were also present. 

He said that from constituency SAS Nagar, Sh. Balbir Singh Sidhu candidate Indian National Congress defeated the opponent of Aam Aadmi Party by 27 thousand 873 votes. As such, Sh. Balbir Sidhu got 66 thousand 844 votes whereas candidate of Aam Aadmi Party got 38 thousand 971 votes. However, candidate of Siromani Akali Dal got 30 thousand 30 votes.Sh. Mangat said that from constituency Dera Bassi, Sh. N. K. Sharma candidate Sromani Akali Dal defeated the opponent of Indian National Congress by 1921 votes. As such, Sh. Sharma got 70 thousand 792 votes whereas candidate of Indian National Congress got 68 thousand 871 votes. However, candidate of Aam Aadmi Party got 33 thousand 150 votes.Similarly from constituency Kharar, Sh. Kanwar Sandhu candidate Aam Aadmi Party won by 2012 votes. He defeated the opponent of Indian National Congress. Sh. Sandhu got 54 thousand 171 votes whereas his opponent candidate of Indian National Congress got 52 thousand 159 votes. Whereas candidate of Siromani Akali Dal got 46 thousand 807 votes.
