At a meeting convened in Chandigarh today all the District Coordinators and Core Committee members of the Pehlan Punjab Lok Hit Abhiyan unanimously resolved to merge into the Trinamool Congress and joined the party's Punjab unit under the leadership of Former MP Jagmeet Singh Brar.At the meeting Brar announced "The TMC will be opening offices in every district of Punjab and office bearers will be announced in the coming days - we are also being approached by many dissidents of the congress and likeminded Akalis".He said "There are speculations about the status alliance with AAP and I have read many statements of AAP leaders on the matter, but the final call will be taken by Mamata Banerjee & Arvind Kejriwal because this alliance will form the basis of a partnership in 2019 also".He also clarified about the rumor on the number of seats TMC was seeking and said "A section of the media has misinterpreted my comments at yesterday's event in Patiala and thrown up a number - I want to clarify that the number of seats we may contest will be decided by Mamataji & Arvind Kejriwal and all numbers and speculations are merely rumors at this stage".Brar lashed out at the Akalis for appointing chairmen to various bodies barely days before the elections are announced and termed it an unfortunate manipulation of state machinery. He also said the TMC will raise the matter of Drugs, Farmer Suicides, Atrocities on Dalits and Women and Rising Unemployment in the state and that any alliance will be based on commitments made on these issues.A senior TMC leader of the Punjab unit who did not wish to be named indicated that if the alliance does not materialize the TMC may contest elections on its own but the final decision will be taken after the Punjab unit submits a report to Mamata Banerjee in the coming days.
