Govt working on comprehensive housing policy: Dy CM

Dr Singh reviews policy framework; Seeks suggestions from stakeholders

The Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh today asked the officers to come up with a comprehensive housing policy which would cater to ever-growing demands of the population by providing them affordable housing facilities and also taking into account the environmental and other related concerns.

The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at a meeting convened to discuss the draft of J&K State Housing and Habitat Policy 2016, amendment of J&K Apartment Ownership Rules 1991 and Policy Document for Regularization of unauthorized constructions in the State, and amendments in J&K Town and Regional Planning Act 2016.Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Ms. Asiea Naqash was also present.Commissioner Secretary Housing and Urban Development Department, Mr. Hirdesh Kumar, MD J&K Housing Board, Ms Vipra Bahal, Vice Chairman JDA Mr Mubarak Singh, Director Urban Local Bodies Kashmir Mr. Tufail Matoo, Chief Town Planners Jammu, Kashmir, and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

The Deputy Chief Minister while discussing the draft said that the Government is working on a comprehensive housing policy which would ensure that every individual in the State gets the requisite and necessary quality housing facilities. He said it would ensure improving the living standards of the people in the State, and would also cater to the ever-growing demand among the people for quality and modern housing facilities.Dr. Singh said the officers should synergize their activities to explore all the possibilities by coming up with a comprehensive draft which would entail every aspect of the modern housing and would also provide the requisite facilities to the urban population and also those living in different towns of the State.The Deputy Chief Minister also directed the officers to put in place a mechanism to fix the responsibility on the concerned to ensure that the practice of unauthorized constructions is checked. He impressed upon field officers to be more vigilant in checking the violations in constructions.Dr. Singh also asked the officers to hold interactive session with their counterparts in other States, besides also the experts of the field to come up with the comprehensive documents. He said we have to endeavor that the people of the State do not suffer on any account and are provided the State of the art facilities.
