Authorities foil protest march called by separatists

Barring stray incidents of stone-pelting, situation remained peaceful: Police

Curfew like restrictions was imposed in several areas Kashmir including of Srinagar city to thwart any protest march in view of separatist called for sit-in and protest march here.Complete shutdown was observed on consecutive 98th day throughout Kashmir.Offices, shops, petrol pumps, educational institutions and other business establishments remained closed while public transport also remained off the roads.For the fourteenth consecutive Friday today, authorities didn’t allow congregational prayers at historic Jamia Masjid in Shaher-e-Khaas nor did they permit the call for prayers, much to the disappointment of thousands of devotees who would normally offer Friday prayers there.According to KNS’s Banidpora correspondent, people of the Gulshan Chowk area of Bandipora district after Friday congregational prayer took out a peaceful protest against civilians’ killings, however, forces intercepted and restored to pellet and teargas shelling due to which clashes erupted in the area, however, no civilian was injured in the clashes.People of Ajas area held Friday congregational at a local Eidgah, however, after Friday prayers civilians of the area took out a protest march against the civilian arrest and pitched for their release, meanwhile protesters dispersed later peacefully.However, in Hajin area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district clashes erupted when people of the area hurled stones at Army Goodwill School during which government forces restored to teargas shelling to disperse protestors, however, no civilian was injured.According to KNS’s correspondent Kupwara, a complete shutdown was observed in the district over civilians’ killings. 

However, a heavy contingent of Police and CRPF men's were deployed at several places in town Kupwara and other towns, meanwhile all shops remained closed, and traffic was off the roads.Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Baramulla after forces lobbed tearges shells on pro freedom protest rally which was taken out from old Eidgah after joint Friday congregational prayers.Clashes erupted between government forces and civilians in Kakapora area of Pulwama district during which ten civilians sustained injures.Witnesses said that youth pelted stones on forces deployed in the area which was responded by teargas shelling.Pertinently, more than 90 civilians were killed and more than 13 thousand were injured in clashes with forces at least 750 persons were partially or fully blinded in the ongoing uprising triggered by the killing of Hizb commander, Burhan Wani on July 08 evening in Bumdoora village of Kokernag area district of Anantnag. Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, barring stray incidents of stone pelting, situation across the valley remained by and large peaceful today. “Adequate deployment was made in the sensitive areas across the Valley as a precautionary measure,” it said.The statement said that incidents of stone pelting were reported from Sabzi Mandi in Srinagar, Naina Chowk in Anantnag, Khudwani Bypass in Kulgam and Tarzoo, Main Chowk in Sopore. “At these places, miscreants in their attempts to disrupt the situation assembled on roads and pelted stone on police and security force deployments,” it said.

The statement said that greater movement of people and vehicular traffic was observed in Srinagar city as also in other parts of the valley. “Public transport was also seen on various roads connecting towns and villages,” it said adding Muharram processions were taken out from various places today as well which culminated peacefully.The statement said that in its continuous drive to curb the activities of the trouble-mongers police arrested 63 such individuals during past 24 hours involved in disrupting the public order in different parts of the valley.
