District Development Commissioner, Shabir Ahmed Batt, today convened a joint meeting of government functionaries and civil society members to discuss arrangements for upcoming Navrarta festival in the district.The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Rajeshwar Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mumtaz Choudhary, ACR Paramjeet Singh, Executive Engineers of PHE and PDD, AD Food, Executive officers of Municipal Committee besides civil society members and representatives of social and religious organizations.The participants apprised the DDC of various cultural and religious activities to be organised during the nine day festival followed by Dussehra on the tenth day. A colourful shoba yatra will be taken out which shall pass through Rajouri town, they added.The DDC directed the district administration to put in place all necessary arrangement for the Navratra events. He asked the Tehsildars and officers to conduct market inspections to keep a check on overcharging and quality of essentials, fruits and vegetables.
Meanwhile, Executive Engineers of PHE and PDD were instructed to ensure uninterrupted water and power supply.He also directed the officers of police to deploy sufficient number of personnel for security in Ramleela grounds and other vulnerable points. The traffic police was asked to maintain smooth vehicular movement to avert jam and overcrowding around celebration venues and connecting routes. Besides, EO Municipality was asked to maintain cleanliness in and around the town with special emphasis on the place of religious congregation.Deputy Commissioner directed fire services department to make all necessary arrangement to deal with any fire incident besides asking medical department to keep one critical care ambulance near the place of congregation
