Election Commission of India (ECI) has invited entries from media houses for the National Media Award for best campaign on ‘Voters’ Education and Awareness for the Year 2016.According to an official spokesman of the Chief Electoral Officer Punjab one award each would be given for print, electronic and social media streams. The Media Houses can also send the entries directly to the Election Commission, he added.The main objective behind giving away the national awards is to recognize outstanding contributions by media houses to promote electoral participation by educating people about the electoral process and raising awareness among the general public about the relevance and importance of voting and registration.A jury appointed by the ECI will adjudge the winners based on factors like quality of campaign, extent of coverage and quantity, evidence of impact on the public and any other relevant factor. Separate entries have to be submitted by both print and electronic media houses.The last date for the submission of the entries is October 3, 2016 while the direct nominations could be sent by October 7, 2016.
