District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kulgam, Showkat Aijaz Bhat, today chaired a meeting here to review implementation of MGNREGA and 14th Finance Commission Awards under Rural Development Department (RDD).The meeting was attended by ACD, BDOs of Kulgam, Devsar, Pahloo, Qaimoh, DH Pora and Frisal blocks, JEs and VLWs of all blocks of the district.Speaking on the occasion, the DDC directed the officials of RDD to work with added zeal in their respective Panchayat Halqas so that the works undertaken under MGNREGA are completed within the stipulated time.The ACD informed the meeting that for the year 2016-17, a sum of Rs 36 Crore has been approved under MGNREGA for the labour component. It was given out that during the current fiscal out of 4511 works the department has already completed 2899 works and 1612 ongoing works will be completed in the stipulated timeframe with a cumulative expenditure of Rs 21.19 Crore, out of the total allocation of Rs 40.69 Crore.
The ACD informed that so far, 1.34 lakh man-days have been generated under MGNREGA during the current fiscal. The meeting was told that under 14th FC Awards, 641works with an approved cost of Rs 7.20 Crore have been approved and their execution is going on in the designated blocks.The District Development Commissioner directed the officials of RDD to start working on formulation of new work plans, keeping in view the ground realities and requirements of each block so that tangible and sustainable assets are created for the welfare of people especially in the rural belts of the district.He stressed upon the officials to prepare and submit action plans in time so that vast monetary potential of MGNREGA is tapped and utilized for the welfare of people and spill over of works is restricted. He said that special focus should be laid on creating flood protection bunds in the flood prone areas of Veshov Nallah, so that effects of any eventuality is mitigated.
