67 girl students of class eleventh of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Model Town were distributed cycles by Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal, adviser to Punjab Chief Minister during a function held, here today. While speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal said that the Punjab government is committed for the overall development of the state and main focus is on education, health and infrastructure building.While listing the achievements of the Punjab government, Grewal said that under the Mai Bhago Scheme around 4.86 lakh girl students of class 10+1 and 10+2 were provided with the cycles free of cost. He stated that Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal has started this scheme to boost the girl students and their parents for education. He said apart from Mai Bhago Vidya Scheme, thirty thousand scholarships are being given to the students with eighty percent marks by the government and meritorious schools were opened for the intelligent students, added Grewal.He further added that grant of Rs five crore was released for the construction of new blocks and the buildings were completed within few years. During the cycle distribution District Education Officer (Secondary) Mrs Paramjit Kaur Chahal, School Principal Mrs Sunita Dhuria, lecturers Mrs Harjit Kaur Makkar, Mr Jagroop Singh, Tarlochan Singh, Harinder Kaur, Ashwani Kumar, besides several others were present.
