DC chairs DCPC meet, asks to set up online helpline to register complaints

Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Aijaz, today chaired meeting of District Consumer Protection Council (DCPC) to discuss measures to further streamline delivery system of essential services besides protecting consumer rights in the district.The DC directed the officers to set up an online helpline for registration of consumers’ complaints so that a prompt and quick disposal of the same is ensured.It was decided in the meeting that PRIs, NGOs, local businessmen besides prominent citizens would also be involved in this noble cause of protecting consumers from any kind of malpractice at the hands of erring traders.Deputy Commissioner asked the members to sensitize the consumers about their rights and responsibilities through massive awareness, IEC campaigns and other related activities. He also asked the traders to develop public friendly environment in their business establishments for larger interest of consumers.

He directed the concerned officers to conduct regular inspections and surprise checks in the markets in rural areas.It was decided in the meeting the District Information Officer shall exploit the local media in creating awareness among the people about false information on promotion of goods, unfair trade practices, illegal fixation of rates, sale of commodities above MRP, illegal fixation of MRP etc.Directions for lifting samples of essential commodities including the drugs and medicines were also issued by the Deputy Commissioner to the concerned so that the shopkeepers remain alert and discard the sale and purchase of expired food items and banned drugs.
