Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today directed PHE department to expedite the process of installation of hand pumps, repair of damaged water pumps, laying of water pipes and commissioning of new Water Supply Schemes in the state.The Minister issued these instructions while addressing a joint meeting of officers of Power Development Department and PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Department here today.The Minister directed PDD to gear up men and machinery for installation of new transformers, electric poles, laying electric cables, repairing old transformers and replacement of old conductors.
The Minister further directed that tube wells should be integrated so that the water supply to a particular area is not affected in case dedicated installation stops functioning. “The tube wells which are not working should be redeveloped at the earliest”, he directed.The Minister directed the officers to closely monitor redevelopment of Water Supply Schemes and conduct surprise visits at all PHE installations for maintaining transparency and efficiency in the overall functioning of the department and maintaining punctuality in the offices.Earlier, the Minister inspected Sitlee Water Treatment Plant in Nagrota where he directed the concerned officers to maintain cleanliness in and around the installation so that potable water can be made available to the inhabitants of the city.The Minister was informed that a total of 12 water pumps having an individual pumping capacity of 1,80,000 gallons per hour are pressed into service at the plant for supplying 19.6 MGD clean potable water per day to Manda Reservoir, Upper Roop Nagar upto Keran including 70 per cent of core city area.Chief Engineer PHE, Sushil Aima accompanied the Minister during the visit.
