Terming the holy month of Ramadan a gift from the Almighty Allah to the Muslim Ummah, Hurriyat (M) Chairman and Jammu Kashmir Muttahida Malis-e-Ulama chief, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Monday urged Muslims to understand the importance and significance of this month and said this month helps Muslims purify themselves from both external and internal impurities.Delivering Waiz-o-Tableeg to a massive gathering at Rang Paristan Masjid in Shehr-e-Khas area of Srinagar on the importance of the first ‘Ten Days of Mercy’ of Ramadan, the Mirwaiz while expressing concern over the societal and moral degradation in Kashmir said creating a religious and a pious atmosphere was the collective responsibility of every individual and the society as a whole.Stressing that the way social evils and moral degradation were eating the very vitals of Kashmiri society, it had become incumbent upon everyone to play their role in eradicating these menaces by starting a mission to bring the society out of this morass.

Appealing Ulema, Imams and responsible sections of the society to spread the teachings of ending Ifraat-o-Tafreet (extremism and negligence) in every issue of worldly affairs, he said people should strike a balance in their lives by following Islamic teachings in letter and spirit.Making it clear that it was not a one person’s job to reform the entire society but the responsibility of everyone to ensure that this Valley of Reshis and Walis gets rid of the evils it is caught in by starting a mission to cleanse and purify it.Meanwhile, laying foundation stone of the Hazrat Umar Farooq Masjid on the Dr. Ali Jan Road at Zoonimar, the Mirwaiz while addressing a gathering of people present on the occasion said Masjid constructions are carried by people who believe in Allah and hereafter. However, he said by only constructing Masjids, one cannot fulfill responsibilities toward the Almighty Allah but Masjids needed to be full with people offering Nimaz and called people to ensure their full attendance at Masjids for prayers.
