The Governor of Haryana, Punjab Haryana and Administrator UT Chandigarh, Prof. Kaptan Singh solanki, while speaking in a symposium on Yoga for Good Health today here at CII, said that “Yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being." Yoga, a physical, mental and spiritual practice having its origin over 6000 years ago in India, aims to integrate the body and the mind.Prof. Solanki, said that 17th Century belongs to England and 18th to France. Whereas 19th and 20th centuries belonged to German and America respectively. He said Swami Vivekananda Ji predicted that 21st Century will be of India, which is going to be proved true. He further said that “Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature and a holistic approach to health and well-being”, he added.

He said ongoing Yoga festival is getting very encouraging response. He said earlier it was decided that 30000 people will participate at yoga camp on International Day at capitol complex Chandigarh on June 21st,but due to good response and with the Participation of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravishanker ji in Yoga Festival at Chandigarh on June 9 this festival is turned into National Yoga festival. Adding more he said from June 12,to June 14 Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev Ji will participate in Yoga Camp at Ambala in HaryanaThe Governor said that the word “yoga” literally means union. Yoga does not mean twisting of body, tying limbs into knots, holding of breath or doing some other exercises. The word “yoga” means, in one’s experience, everything has become one. It is a system of raising human ability to perceive, to enhance individual human beings to realise their ultimate nature. Yoga is the most profound exploration of the very mechanics of life, he added.Prominent amongst others who spoke on the occasion included Mr. Parimal Rai, Adviser to Administrator, Mr. Anurag Aggarwal, IAs, Home Secretary, Mr. Ajit Balaji Joshi, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Dinesh Dua, Chairman CII Chandigarh, Dr. H.R. Nagindra, Vice Chancellor, Svyasa University and Professor Sanjay Vasant Deshmukh, Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai.
