Madhukar Gupta, former Home Secretary and Chairman of the Committee to Strengthen Border Protection (CSBP) along with members of his Committee: Dr Arvind Gupta, IFS, Deputy National Security Advisor; Mr K. Vijay Kumar, IPS (Retd.) Advisor in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Mr Ashok Prasad, IPS (Retd.), former Secretary (Internal Security) in Ministry of Home Affairs, and officers of the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS): Mr Arvind Kumar and Dr Shivananda, called on Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan.During his discussions with the Committee, the Governor recalled the repeated terror attacks from across the IB and LoC in the Jammu and Kashmir regions, particularly since 2012, and stressed that after the Pathankot Air Base terror attack it had become a matter of vital importance to review existing anti- infiltration arrangements on the ground, Area of Responsibility of the Northern Army Command, and ensure time bound further strengthening of the Counter Infiltration and Counter Terrorism Grids, particularly along the IB in Jammu region.The Governor also discussed with the Committee several other important issues relating to internal and external security management in J&K and in the neighbouring Punjab.Mr Madhukar Gupta, who is here to assess the ground realities of border management, shared his assessment with the Governor about the sustained attempts at cross-border infiltration and the steps which would be required to further strengthen and plug any existing loopholes.
