Speaking in a symposium on Industry-Institution-Interaction organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the Governor of Haryana, Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki said that the Central and State Governments are encouraging Engineering Institutions to take the initiative on reform through Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP).He said that aim of these initiatives was to raise the quality of education, enhance the qualifications of faculty, increase and enhance research outputs and most significantly to improve educational standards and the employability of students who pass out of these institutes.Emphasising on bridging the increasing gap between industry and the Engineering institution, the Governor said that need of the hour was to train youth to meet the needs of industries. He said relevant skills should be incorporated apart from those as already prescribed. He said these skills being more adaptable for employment would suit the needs of the industries and make youth Market ready resulting in boosting their employment as well as self employment prospects.

Adding more the Governor said that there are many types of gaps which needs to be bridged, such as generation gap, gap in theory and practical. He said 21st century is century of development, which was not possible without technology. He said technology alone can also not help if you don’t have industry. He said to run industry smoothly you need relevant skilled man power.The Governor said that it was a fact that when industry and institution will go hand in hand and cooperate with each other, more innovations can happen. He said this would help in creating healthy environment in the country by which there will be an all round development and growth of the economy. He said that this would be an important factor in making the economy of the country more strong. He said the industry and institutions were inter-dependent on each other for new inventions and innovations to meet the multifarious demands of the society. He said both industry and institutions play a significant role in the development of the nation.He further said that our educational institutions should not impart education to prepare the students to become job seekers, but to ensure to produce more number of job givers.
