Despite the tall claims of government for improving the standard of education in the state, historical building is awaiting for its up gradation. Under the shadow of Chinars, Government Higher Secondary School Pattan lacks all modern facilities which one school should have in the 21st century.School has been established in 1975, since then no proper attention was paid towards its up gradation, being a centrally located place in district Baramulla, hundreds of students including boys and girls are being made to suffer, due to apathy of government.President Traders Federation Pattan Abdul Rashid Bhat told KNS that, “being a historical place Pattan town is without a Girls Higher Secondary, there is a co-education in Pattan higher secondary due to which students couldn't concentrate on their studies.‘Present government should concentrate on the developmental sector instead of their hallow slogans, president added.Former District President Teachers Forum Baramulla, Qadri Qamar-ud Din said, “Pattan being a historical place, it needs government girl’s higher secondary, so that our girl students can cut short their visit to another girl’s higher secondary which is situated at Magam.

Meanwhile Principal Government Higher Secondary School Pattan, Farooq Ahmad Wani told KNS that, “we are lacking of all modern facilities which one government school should have in 21st century, despite the fact that School is having an enrolment of 1000 students. He further said that. “The government must concentrate on the education sector and take revolutionary steps to improve it. The Higher Secondary School needs to be standardized according to modern education systems, adding vocational courses like tourism, IT, fisheries should be accelerated here.“School administration had sent many letters to the education department, drawing the attention towards the shabby condition of the building and lack of facilities but, nothing has been done so for, principal added. He said that, “from time to time Member of Parliaments (MPs), sanctioned huge amount on its developments, but the funds were not utilized in a proper way, our school building is turned into a pigeon house, instead of a concrete building small huts were made here which presents a shabby look and our students finds themselves in a bad state of affairs.‘School lacks all basic facilities like playground, fencing, floor tiles, street lights, drinking water and more drainage system is passing through the school premises which is irritating one and all, Principal added.
