Bellying the tall claims of the authorities of bringing reforms in education sector, the government schools in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district sans the basic facilities posing a question on the government reforms.Under Right to Education, it is mandatory to have basic facilities in schools but the non availability of basic facilities in the Government run school in Tikker village of Kupwara district has come under severe criticism with the students and the teaching faculty alleging it to be a reason of immense hardships.“The total enrolment of the students is 150 while most of them are girl students but there is no toilet facility available in the school thereby leaving us to lurch at large,” a girl student said.

She said that besides toilet, the school also lacks several basic facilities which include matting and road connectivity. “We are being pushed to the walls with the non availability of such basic facilities in the school,” she said.Teachers of the school also said that they are facing immense hardships due to the non-availability of basic facilities in the school. “From past several years, the problems in the school were ignored. Thus, simultaneously leave students as well as the students to suffer,” they said.Director school education, Shah Faesal told KNS that he has sent a letter to Chief Education Officer (CEO) and headmaster of the concerned school and has asked them to send an estimate for the restoration of toilets and other basic facilities.
