PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, who is set to become the next chief minister of the state, Saturday said that her party is committed to take forward the agenda of peace, development and reconciliation which was promised to the people by the former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.“We want to work for maintaining the communal harmony and brotherhood of the regions of the state, which has a diverse population of different religions. The agenda of peace, development and reconciliation which was promised by Mufti Sahab will be taken forward,” Mehbooba told reporters in Jammu after staking claim for government formation with the support of BJP.“I am very happy that in the last over two months there was reiteration of agenda of alliance from both the sides (PDP and BJP). Mufti Sahab has not forged this alliance for a larger purpose than just for governance,” Mehbooba said.

“Jammu and Kashmir is not like any other state. You need to address things politically, economically. For that we have drafted agenda of alliance and I am happy that BJP at its highest forum and in Parliament reassured that they are committed by the agenda,” she said.Mehbooba expressed her satisfaction over the assurances from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after meeting her.“Prime Minister has assured his complete support to the government for peace, reconciliation and development to make Jammu and Kashmir a showcase window for the whole world,” she said.Mehbooba said that Mufti Sahab took a huge decision of allying with BJP to fill the distrust that exists within the state and between the state and New Delhi. On the date of oath taking ceremony, she said that both the alliance partners will discuss it and then it will be fixed accordingly. On the issue of distribution of portfolios, Mehbooba said that there is no disagreement on portfolios between the coalition partners.“This is a coalition government and there is not fight over portfolios. We are not working separately in the government and cannot take decisions unilaterally,” she said. (KNS)
