Sericulture awareness camp held at Baramulla

DDC distributes cheques among 26 cocoon farmers

To increase the silk production and for adopting new techniques of farming an awareness camp cum Kissan Mela was held in the district which was organized by the Department of Sericulture Kashmir during which the Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Yasha Mudgal, was the Chief Guest.Earlier the DC visited Mirgund and inspected the research stalls there. She was informed that the department is taking many steps for the benefit of cocoon farmers. She also distributed cheques among 26 cocoon growers to help them in this field for increased production of the silk. The officials of the department said about Rs. 1.25 lakh have been distributed among the silk farmers for the construction of sheds for silk rearing.On the occasion it was given out that the Department of Sericulture has recorded an increased production of 20% in the year 2014-15. The DC was told that during the year 2015-16 production of 60200 kg cocoons was recorded; besides she was informed that six mulberry nurseries are operating in the district from where leaves for sericulture are received.
