Dozens of youths today staged violent anti-India protests in Old City area of Nowhatta and its adjoining areas after Friday prayers.Eyewitnesses told Srinagar-based news GNS that the youths staged pro-freedom and anti-India slogans in Nowhatta area. The youths were shouting slogans in favour of Islam, Azadi and militants. They, the youths, also resorted to massive anti-India sloganeering.Reports informed GNS that the youths later resorted to intense stone-pelting on government forces in the area who retaliated by lobbing tear smoke canisters. The intense clashes later spread to Gojwara, Rajouri Kadal and Islamia College.As the clashes intensified, the shopkeepers closed down their shops and traffic was also affected. Police summoned additional security personnel in these areas while the clashes continued till late hours. No one was reported to be injured. (GNS)
