Road Safety Week: MVD, Traffic Police organise health awareness camp

As a part of observance of 27th Road Safety week-2016, Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) in collaboration with Traffic Police, transporters and other stakeholders organized a medical health awareness camp for the drivers and conductors at Taxi Stand Railway Station Jammu today.MLA Basohli Choudhary Lal Singh was the chief guest while MLC, Charanjeet Singh Khalsa was guest of honour on the occasion. The inaugural function was held here this morning at Taxi Stand Railway Station Jammu.Speaking on the occasion, Lal Singh urged the stakeholders, civil society especially youth and other agencies to rededicate their efforts to ensure safety of people besides restricting fatal road accidents. He also appreciated the large participation of the drivers, contractors and other people associated with transport sector in the event and hoped that they will further spread awareness among friends, relatives and peer groups. He urged for adherence strictly to the traffic rules for smooth flow of traffic and ensuring safety of people besides restricting road accidents.

MLC Charanjeet Singh in his address emphasized on the importance of road safety and need to disseminate information about the safety among the public and the motor vehicle users especially youth. He enjoined upon the MVD department to carry out activities on sustain basis throughout the year so that the message becomes fully effective and people get awareness about the traffic rules and the precautions. He also stressed that traffic law awareness camps should be organized in educational institutions including schools, colleges and universities for the benefit of students

RTO Jammu Ashwani Khajuria elaborated over the importance of Road Safety Week and the activities being organized by the department during the week which include orientation/awareness programmes, medical camps, rallies etc.  He said that main objective of observing this week is to spread road safety awareness among general masses in order to reduce the scale of fatal road accidents. He said that the department is engaged in creating road safety awareness by way of organizing such programmes throughout the year. He said that collective efforts would make a significant impact on the incidence of road accidents and help mitigate the scourge of the road accident related deaths and injuries.On the occasion free medical camps were organized by Directorate of Indian System of Medicines, Red Cross, Civil Defence in which large number of drivers and conductors were examined by doctors and were provided free medicines.IGP Traffic Vipan Chowdhary, SSP Traffic, Mohan Lal, SSP Railways, Suram Singh, ARTO (BOI) Swarn Singh, representatives of Automobile and Transport Associations, volunteers from Civil Defense, NCC, Red Cross, MVD Inspectors, , drivers, conductors besides prominent citizens were also present on the occasion.
