Police officer and his security guard injured in militant attack

In a sudden militant attack, a police officer and his security guard were critically injured when they were escorting a Milad procession in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.Reports said that militants attacked a police party in South Kashmir’s Goriwan area of Bijbehara town in South Kashmir’s Anantnag town injuring two cops including Sub-Divisional Police Officer Irshad Hussain Rather.Sources informed CNS that militants targeted police officer and his security guards outside Bijbehara Police Station near Gourwan area. Sources added that besides SDPO Irshad Hussain Rather, another cop Tanvir Ahmed was also wounded in the attack and they were immediately shifted to local hospital wherefrom the security guard was shifted to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura while SDPO was rushed to Army hospital Badamibagh. Police sources said that SDPO Irshad Hussain Rather received three bullets in his chest. “Rather has been shifted to hospital for advance treatment while another cop Tanvir Ahmed is stable,” he said.

Reports said that massive hunt was launched soon after the attack to nab the militants. The militant attack according to eyewitnesses created panic in the area. Shopkeepers downed their shutters while transport disappeared from the roads. Massive deployment of government forces was ensured on roads after the attack while search operation was launched to nab the militants. A police official said that initial investigation has revealed that at least two to three militants were part of the attack. (CNS)
