A meeting of Committee on Estimates of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was held under the Chairmanship of MLA, Javid Hassan Beigh here today to discuss the functioning of Estates Department.Legislators, Mubarak Gul, Ranbir Singh Pathania, Shakti Raj, Raja Manzoor Ahmad, Dina Nath Bhagat,  Ishfaq Ahmad Sheikh and Ramesh Arora were also present in the meeting and gave their suggestions to improve the functioning of the department.The Committee held detailed discussion on Government residential accommodation provided to MLA’s and MLCs at Jammu and Srinagar and accommodation provided to Move/Non-Move employees in the capital cities.The Committee asked Estates Department to provide facilities to the Legislators as per protocol. It also asked the department to constitute a Committee to look into the grievances related to residential accommodation for early redress.Principal Secretary, Estates Department, Mr. B. B. Vyas informed the Committee about accommodation/residential accommodation provided by the department to the Ministers/Legislators at Jammu and Srinagar.  He informed that the Estates department at present has 3212 quarters in Jammu and 1299 in Srinagar. There is demand for government accommodation for 9000 move employees, out of which 2650 employees have been accommodated as per availability of quarters in both cities. He further informed that the department plans to purchase around 99.13 Kanal of land at Sidhra Jammu at an estimated cost of Rs 17 crore from JDA. The Planning Department in this regard has already released 1st instalment of Rs 7 crore on account of land ompensation/construction of boundary wall. He informed that the department has a proposal to construct 400 flats on the said land for move employees. He also informed that there is another proposal to acquire 48.77 Kanal of land at Solina-Tulsibagh Srinagar for construction of quarters for move employees.Director, Estates, Mr. G. N. Ittoo Special Secretary, Legislative Assembly, Mr. M. R. Singh besides officers of Estates Department and Assembly Secretariat were also present in the meeting.
