The Punjab government has decided to give new form to the National Livestock Championship held at Sri Muktsar Sahib every year in the month of January. This year, the championship is being held here from Jan 8 to Jan 12, 2016 wherein during the Progressive Punjab National Livestock Expo and Championship 2016 the competitions will be held on the lines of famous national level Pushkar Mela of Rajasthan. The event will showcase colors of Punjab to attract the iner-national tourists too.Giving this information here today the Deputy Commissioner Dr Basant Garg stated that Punjab government's this annual fets is already very popular on North India and a large number of animal rearers and animal lovers flock this event.  

Keeping in view its importance, the Punjab government has now decided to take it at a higher level and turn it into an international event. He added that in order to encourage animal rearing and increase public participation in event, the progressive farmers of different states will also be honored. Besides this, the national competition will see participation of those involved in animal rearing, fish farming, piggery etc and will be given information about the latest technological developments. More than 200 stalls will be put up in this mela related to farm machinery, modernized products, medicines etc.Dr Basant Garg said that the colorful event will exhibit rich culture of villages and the Punjabi way of life to attract youngsters towards the event. He added that for foreign tourists' ldgings, arrangements have been made at the nearby farm houses, who can enjoy the winters in countryside. 

During this time's national fair, special arrangements have been made for the championships which will include army's horse mounted teams' polo matches, cycle polo, killa patna (dislodginglog of food from earth) and jumping shows. North Regional Cultural Center will hold entertaining cultural programs in evening. It is pertinent to mention here that Australia has confirmed its participation in mela for which the Australian delegation will reach India next month. Also teams from Germany and UK too area expected to participate in it.He adedd that during this five days national fair, 70 experts will deliver lectures on different scientific issues and give farmers information about varied aspects of animal rearing. The ADC Mr Kuljit Pal Mahi and deputy director Mr Pradeep Kumar Sharma were also present.
