Women Safai Karamchari trained as commercial motor driver get placement letter

Under skill training programme of Social Justice Ministry 1.5 lakh Safai Karmchari and other weaker Sections to be trained in various traders

After successful seven months training of 250 women Safai Karmchari and their dependence as commercial motor driver, 30 women were given job/ placement letters by Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment in a function organized by his Ministry here today. Another batch of 250 such women has started training by Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation (NFDC) under skill development programme of the Ministry.Awarding the placement letters to the women from Safai Karamcharis families, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot underlined the need to provide skill development training particularly to the children of safai karamcharis and manual scavengers who, so far have remained engaged only in sanitation related occupations. 

He appreciated that this training will empower the women beneficiaries and create an environment of safety for women in the cities. He suggested that this training programme should also be started in other big cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Bengaluru etc. 

Krishan Pal Gurjar, Minister of State, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, in his address stated that NSKFDC is in dialogue with various taxi aggregators, School van operators, Resident Welfare Associations etc. for exploring employment opportunities for the trained women drivers seeking job employment. Once these women drivers are on the road, there will be a lot of confidence boosting among the women and parents of the girls in Delhi. They will start feeling that women are safer in Delhi than before, he said.

On the occasion, an MoU was executed between NSKFDC and Apollo MedSkills as training partner for training of safai Karamcharis/ manual scavengers and their dependents in various medical related trades and their placements in various hospitals etc. A tripartite agree was also signed among NSKFDC, HIMCOM and Azad Foundation for Job/ Self Employment of 90 trainees of Commercial Motor Driving.
