Agriculture Deptt begins sale of hybrid onion seeds

To provide high quality seedlings to boost vegetable production, Director Agriculture Kashmir Syed Altaf Aijaz Indrabi today kick-started sale of hybrid onion seedlings at Kitchen Garden, Lalmandi.The sale of onion seedlings evoked tremendous enthusiasm among the people and heavy rush was witnessed on the first day of sale. People from Srinagar and adjoining areas had come to purchase the seedlings.On this occasion Director Agriculture was apprised that hybrid onion was sown in polygreen houses in Kitchen Garden and around 1.5 to 2 lakh onion seedling are ready for sale.The Seed Production Officer informed the Director that onion seedling raised in controlled conditions are ready  for transplanting and sale will remain open for 3-4 days on first come first serve basis.Mr. Indrabi while interacting with the growers present on the occasion said that keeping in view the huge economic potential of vegetable production, the farmers and the youth should take up vegetable cultivation by using latest technology and using high quality seed/seedlings, as there is good market for fresh and organic vegetables.
