Srinagar , 11 Oct 2015

Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani Sunday cut-short his India visit and returned Srinagar at the time when he came to know that the Andhra government had banned the proposed conference and public meeting in Hyderabad city of Andhra Pradesh which was organized by a human rights organization named Civil Liberties and the state police threatened and harassed the organizers of the conference in which many prominent speakers were scheduled to deliberate and highlight the grave issues of custodial killings, custodial tortures and custodial disappearance.

Syed Ali Geelani was invited as a chief guest in the conference and many political figures and human rights activists from different states of India were also scheduled to attend the said conference. In a statement to KNS, Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar said that Syed Ali Geelani was to leave for New Delhi from Srinagar on 9th October Friday and from New Delhi he was programmed to leave for Hyderabad on 10th October Saturday to participate in the proposed conference in which he was invited as a chief guest and where he was to deliver an important lecture.

Peer Saifullah, Altaf Ahmad Shah and Ayaz Akbar were also accompanying Syed Ali Geelani but the program organizers informed the delegation over phone that the government had banned the conference and Hyderabad police commissioner while threatened them (organizers) over phone said that “Syed Ali Geelani is although a heart patient and I will arrest him on reaching to Hyderabad and if anything untoward happened to him in our custody, it will be your responsibility and that will burn up whole India”.

While terming this attitude and approach of the Indian government as undemocratic and unjustified, Syed Ali Geelani said that the minorities in India are not only treated as second class citizens but their life, property, dignity and even their religion is not safe at the hands of the fanatic Hindu extremists. He said that to counter the evil and wicked designs of the Indian imperialistic and communal forces, it is need of the time that all the subjugated, oppressed and victims of rising ‘Brahman Samaj’ should unite and jointly run a movement.

Syed Ali Geelani further said that India had not only illegally and forcibly occupied the state of Jammu & Kashmir but this country is inflicting tremendous atrocities over the weak communities of its own nation. Even after the separation of Telengana from Hyderabad, the government forces continue to unleash atrocities upon the common citizens of this region and the graph of human rights violations has reached to an alarming level here. People of this region are detained without any trial and they are being subjected to the worst kind of custodial torture. An awareness conference was organized in Hyderabad to highlight these issues but the government banned this conference to hide its state terrorism and we were not allowed to interact with the torture victims and the affected people.

Chairman Hurriyat (G) however said that we will continue to unite and assemble those people on a single platform who are facing state terrorism of India and whose citizen rights are being snatched.Syed Ali Geelani said that we will share our stage with all those people who will stand against the terrorism of India. He said that the organizers of the Hyderabad conference can also think of organizing this conference in Srinagar and we will provide every possible support to that. (KNS)
