Within eight days after the CBI forwarded a plea, Interpol issued a Red Corner Notice against Satinderjeet Singh, popularly known as Goldy Brar. He has claimed responsibility for the murder of singer-lyricist Sidhu Moosewala, officials said Thursday.

An investigation will be conducted against Brar, a native of Sri Muktsar Sahib, who currently lives in Canada. Not only this, Interpol has issued a Red Corner Notice against the alleged gangster. Brar went to Canada on a student visa and never returned. “He killed his cousin Gurlal Brar and entered into the crime world,” said a CBI official.

“Generally, host countries are expected to locate, detain and start extradition proceedings against persons under RCN (red corner notice). We will request Canada to do so bilaterally too,” a senior Indian official told to news portal.

According to Interpol, “Red Notices are issued for fugitives wanted either for prosecution or to serve a sentence. A Red Notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.”

The Punjab Police wrote to the CBI for two cases that took place in 2020 and 2021, against which the CBI wrote to Interpol to issue the RCN. A CBI source also said that the request for RCN issuance was sent on a different matter on June 2, but not on Sidhu Moosewala murder case.

Moreover, Canada’s High Commissioner to New Delhi Cameron Mackay tweeted in this context that the agencies were “working closely together to fight transnational crime and ensure public safety”.

The Punjab Police on Tuesday said they had arrested eight people so far in connection with the 28-year-old singer's brutal murder.
