New Delhi , 11 Aug 2015

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and EntrepreneurshipRajiv Pratap Rudy here today inaugurated the Skill Development Centre made out of containers. Four containers are exhibited at 6 Rajaji Marg, New Delhi.Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said, the main idea behind this exhibition is to popularise the concept of using Container class rooms in order to save time and money and focus more on skill training, so that the mission of Skill India becomes a success. Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Shri Sunil Arora said, this is a novel experiment and has the potential to transform the skilling landscape. These Containers Skill Centres have created an extremely innovative model for skilling people.

The Skill Development Centre made out of containers was shown first to the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion of the launch of Skill India on 15th July, 2015. Prime Minister had lauded this effort and especially mentioned about the usefulness of this model in his address to the gathering on launching of Skill India Campaign.

This innovation of converting recycled containers into classrooms and practical labs will greatly bring down the costs and effort involved in developing infrastructure to meet the skilling needs of people. The modular nature of these containers means that they can be disassembled and reinstalled at another location, if needed. This community outreach initiative will help Government to provide high quality skill training at even the remotest areas in the country.

These Containers are designed beautifully and provide a professional look and feel. These containers can be converted into classrooms, restrooms, computer labs, libraries, dormitories, simulation labs, office spaces, receptions.

The different configurations can be mapped according to the skill requirements and needs of the region to create a complete training centre. The advantage that these Container Schools provide is the ability to conduct training at any location where skilling is needed, as the structure can be set up anywhere in a short time, with just the availability of land and an electricity connection. There is great enthusiasm amongst the training ecosystem for this model. Several Union Ministers and about 40 Members of Parliament have visited the demonstration Container Skill centres at Rajaji Marg and have shown deep interest on the inaugural day.

Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship is committed to replicate this model on a large scale to reach out and provide skill training in locations where adequate skill training facilities do not exist. NSDC has already floated an expression of interest to invite vendors who could fabricate and refurbish used containers for use as skill centres. This concept of Container Skill Centres is being taken forward by Safeducate, the training partner of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana launched by Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.
