On the invitation of the Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Mr. Charanjit Singh Atwal, renowned social activist and Dubai based prominent businessman Mr. S.P. Singh Oberoi for the first time today visited the Vidhan Sabha and on behalf of the Speaker and Punjab Government, Mr. Parminder Singh Dhindsa Finance Minister Punjab honoured him for his splendid contribution of getting free various Indian youth languishing in Dubai and Sharjah prisons facing death penalty and imprisonment. In recognition to his selfless contribution helping the Indians, all legislative members of the Punjab assembly appreciated his gesture and welcomed the move of the Speaker.On behalf of the Speaker and state government Finance Minister Mr. Dhindsa accompanied by former legislator Mr. Iqbalinder Singh Atwal presented Mr. Oberoi a memento and a shawl. It may be recalled that Mr. Oberoi helped about 54 youth imprisoned in the prisons of Dubai and Sharjah and not only fought their legal battle single handedly but also helped their families financially. He even got about dozen such prisoners rescued from the death penalty they were facing. Besides this the prominent businessman was also running a school free of cost with hostel for the physically challenged children at Patiala. In order to provide clean drinking water in the Punjab jails, RO plants have also been installed besides providing cretch facilities for the children of those mothers undergoing sentence in four prisons.
