Electoral reform can help resolve the issue of elected representatives giving false details in poll-related affidavits, BJP's Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Muktar Abbas Naqvi said on Friday.Naqvi was in Panaji to address party workers on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Emergency imposed by then prime minister Indira Gandhi. He was queried about any broad measures the National Democratic Alliance government was working on in the wake of a slew of cases where elected representatives, including union Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani, stand accused of mentioning false information, including educational qualification and criminal record, on sworn affidavits.

Naqvi said: "Electoral reform is needed. We are moving in that direction. Judicial reform, administrative reform, police reform, electoral reform, tax reform. We are moving swiftly in that direction."He ruled out a comprehensive review of affidavits for falsification on FIRs, a controversy which has stung leaders from major political parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party. He said: "I don't think. How many people can you review?"

Naqvi also called the Congress a "champion of political conspiracy", when asked about the BJP's position on allegations that its top leaders like External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje favoured former IPL chief Lalit Modi."The BJP will never act on the basis of tainted political agenda... We are seeing one story every month from the champions of political conspiracy. Whatever is mandated by law will happen," Naqvi said.
