Chairman Hurriyat Jinab Syed Ali Geelani Friday said “I am not Indian by birth but we have been forcibly entangled in this occupation and it is our compulsion to travel on the Indian passport.”As soon as the police force left the Hyderpora residence of Geelani, he moved towards the regional passport office Srinagar, where he completed the remaining formulates with regarding to his travel documents and submitted his photographs and fingerprints there.In a statement to KNS, Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar said, “After 47 days of continuous house arrest, Geelani Sahab was today freed and the police vehicle was removed from the entrance gate of his residence. Geelani Sahab was although today having an appointment with passport officer Srinagar in connection with the formalities of his travel documents. Hurriyat Conference had categorically refused to follow the police dictation in this regard and had conditioned the passport office visit with the complete withdrawal of the police force from his residence.”
“On Friday morning, police force present around the residence of Geelani Sahab got orders from their masters to free the pro-freedom leader and as soon as they left the Hyderpora, Geelani Sahab decided to visit the passport office. According to the spokesman, the hurriyat chairman visited the passport office and completed all necessary formulates in this regard but as soon as Geelani Sahab came out off the passport office, a huge gathering of media persons was present there who were showing very indiscipline and hurriedness in questioning him. Hurriyat chairman answered in three brief sentences all the questions which were simultaneously coming from many sides and mouths,” he said.Geelani said to them in clear terms that “I am not Indian but it is a forced relation and we are in compulsion to travel on Indian passport”. Hurriyat spokesman said that the Indian media is although very critical of the Geelani statements “but it is not going to change anything.”
“Geelani Sahab is from last 50 years openly challenging the forced military occupation of India in Jammu & Kashmir and if it is crime then he is a confessional criminal and he will always commit this crime. Indian freedom fighters like Mahatama Gandhi and Jawarah Lal Nehru too were using the British travel documents during the resistance movement against the same Britten. If Geelani Sahab is provided with the passport after completing all these formulates, it will not be any favor to him but it is his basic and birth right which is forcibly being denied to him.,” he said.The spokesman, however, said that if he is not given the passport then he will not beg for the same and he will stand by his position like a rock and will continue to represent the wishes and aspirations of the people of the oppressed nation.Meanwhile police once again placed Hurriyat (G) chairman under house arrest immediately after he returned back from the passport office and Friday prayers, he added.
