The Punjab government has renamed Attari railway station as “Attari Sham Singh” railway station as a humble tribute to the great Sikh general Sardar Sham Singh after getting no objection with regard to change of name of the railway station from Government of India. It may be mentioned that Sardar Sham Singh Attariwala was a general for the Sikh Empire and is famous for his last stand at the famous Anglo-Sikh Battle of Sobraon. He joined the Sikh military in 1817 and during the Afghan-Sikh Wars participated in the Battle of Attock, Battle of Multan, Battle of Peshawar, and the 1819 Kashmir expedition.
