Sukhbir Badal calls upon YAD and SOI to work for Social Causes

Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal today gave a clarion call to the office bearers of 'Youth Akali Dal' (YAD) and 'Students Organisation of India' (SOI) to fulfil the aspirations of youth of the state by launching special awareness drives to educate them about various scholarship schemes. 

Presiding over a high level meeting of YAD and SOI office bearers here S. Badal exhorted them to facilitate students and youngsters by providing requisite information regarding welfare initiatives especially scholarships to students. S. Badal said they could launch a drive in this regard in schools, colleges and universities to ensure benefits are delivered to eligible candidates.

Asking them to come out with a new website of YAD and SOI, Mr. Badal said in this era of information technology, lakhs of youths could be provided necessary information through a detailed website. He also asked the SOI chiefs to initiate the process for setting up of gyms and fitness centres in hostels. On the issue of Girls Wings, S. Badal said these wings will be formed soon. He said initially these wings will be setup in Panjab University, Chandigarh and Punjabi University, Patiala.Focusing on the motto of 'No to Drugs', S. Badal asked them to educate and make the general public aware about the impacts of drugs. He said YAD and SOI would also organise a cycle rally at Ludhiana against drugs on April 25.

Stressing upon the need to ensure inclusion of youth leaders with 'clean image', S. Badal said in next two months the membership drive for YAD and SOI will be expedited. He said in coming months lakhs of students will be connected with these organisations through social media. He said only those leaders having complete clean image will be made part of these organisations. S. Badal also asked YAD chiefs to launch membership drive from May 11, which will remain in process till July 15 while SOI will start membership drive from August 15 to September 15. He said these drives should reach up to the grass root level.Party President said monthly review meetings would be held to get the status of drive and functioning of both organisations. He also gave a call to all present in the meeting for launching inter zone sports meets in their respective zones for utilising the energy of youth in a positive way. 

Emphasising the need to wage a unified war against drugs, Mr. Badal said YAD and SOI workers should actively work against this social ill. He said they should work in tandem with general public to eliminate this menace in entirety. He also directed them to ensure that no bad element should be part of this campaign. Prominent among those were present in the meeting included Coordinator YAD S. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Coordinator SOI Parambans Singh Romana, Incharge IT Cell YAD/SOI S. Parminder Brar, Youth Akali Dal Malwa Zone 1 President S. Kanwarjit Singh Rozi Barkandi, Malwa II President S. Harpal Juneja, Malwa III President S. Tarsem Bhinder, Doaba President S. Sarbjot Singh Sabi and in SOI Malwa Zone 1 President S. Robin Brar, SOI Doaba President S. Sarabjit Jhinder, SOI Malwa III President S. Meetpal Dugri, SOI Malwa II President S. Harkanwal Virk and SOI Majha President S. RS Chhina.
