90 Per Cent National Highways In Punjab To Be Four/Six-Laned In Five Year: Dhillon

The Punjab Government has decided to complete the four/six lining of 90 per cent of National Highways in the state in five year. National Highways-15, Sri Aitsar-Sri Ganganagar would be four laned in four years. Disclosing this here today, PWD Minister, Punjab Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that the Punjab Government was committed to strengthen the infrastructure in stipulated time frame. He said that estimated Rs.3,000 crore would be incurred on the four lining of National Highway-15 Sri Aitsar-Sri Ganganagar. He said that work on this project would be commenced on October 2013 and complete till 2016. Dhillon said that the survey and other formalities relating to this project has been completed. He further said that under this project the highway leading from Sri Aitsar to Bathinda would be four-laned, whereas highway leading from Bathinda to Rajasthan border would be made two lane wide, but in the major cities between Bathinde to Rajasthan highway would be made four lane wide. While talking about the widening of road from Doraha (on the embankment of Sidhwan Canal) to National Highway-95 Ludhiana- Ferozpur with the cost of 400 crore, Minister said that the work was continuing and the road would complete till October 2012. He said that under this project from Ludhiana-Dhuri and Ludhiana-Ferozpur road 2 railways over bridge (ROB) and 3 flyovers were being constructed. He further said that NH-64 Zirakpur-Patiala would be made four-lane wide with the incurring of 501 crore. Dhillon said that the work on this project would commence on September, 2012. He said that for this project approval of Forest Department has obtained and the work for cutting trees would start shortly. He expressed hope that this road would complete till October 2014. He said that NH-64 Patiala-Bathinda would be made four laned wide with the cost of Rs.2007 crore. He said that for getting clearance for this project, case has been submitted before Environment Department, New Delhi. Minister said that this project would initiate on September, 2012 and possibly be completed till April, 2015. He said that on this 217 Km Stretch from Zirakpur-Patiala and Patiala-Bathinda project, 3 Over Bridges and 11 Under Bridge would be constructed. Dhillon said that no compromise would be made considering the quality and sustainability of these projects.
