On the eve of World Human Rights day, Huriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Saturday said that amid ‘so-called’ elections, the burning issues of gross human rights violations are being downplayed by the pro- India parties at large. The Huriyat (M) chief stressed upon UN and world human rights organization to come forward and play their role in putting an end to the gross violation of human rights committed by the Indian Troops in Kashmir.Mirwaiz said that UN declared December 10, as world human rights day. The UN charter of human rights enshrines that every inpidual across the world is entitled to basic human, social, political and religious rights. “However, unfortunately the people of Kashmir are deprived of these basic rights usurped by the occupational forces who have imposed draconian laws like AFSPA, Disturbed Areas Act, PSA, and more and who have been provided immunity against prosecution or any other legal action,” he said in a statement to KNS.

Hurriyat (M) chairman alleged that thousands of people have been killed for demanding their basic right to self determination in Kashmir, more than 10,000 people have been subjected to enforced disappearance, around 7000 unmarked graves have been discovered dotting the Kashmir landscape, countless cases of  rape used as war weapon have been reported, there is an army of orphans and widows, and countless people have so  far been killed in fake encounters. He said is it both ironic and sad that while India prides itself of being the world’s largest democracy and wants globally to be applauded and accepted as a great upholder of democratic ideals, has not only been perpetuating these crimes brazenly but has also been successful in making the global community turn a blind eye towards the plight of Kashmiris. Mirwaiz added that the silence of the world community equally makes it a partner in these crimes  and encourages those who commit it to continue this policy.

Mirwaiz appealed international rights organizations, ICRC, Amnesty International, Asia Watch, UN and other organizations to take strong notice of the rights violations and play their role in stopping them.Meanwhile, the amalgam spokesman said that Hurriyat would organize a seminar on December 10 to observe Human rights Day at Taj Hotel Badshah Xhowk sharp at 11.am. The seminar would be presided by Mirwaiz Umar besides noted human rights dignitaries, Hurriyat leaders and general people would participate in the seminar. The spokesman said that apart from delivering lectures on rights violation over the period of 25 years, Hurriyat would also hold exhibition of pictures containing images of victims of rights violation and also issue a detailed report on rights violations prepared by the Human Rights cell of Huriyat (M).Reiterating its appeal to people to observe complete strike on December 8 on prime Minister Narendra Modi visit to Kashmir, Hurriyat (M) stated “It should send a clear message to Indian leadership that Kashmiris have never accepted the dominance and hegemony of Indian union and they would decided their political future only through right to self determination.”
