While completing its 5th phase of the interim relief package, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani, today distributed Rs. 10,000 cheque and a relief kit each to the 50 deserving families of Srinagar and Bandipora districts. In a statement to KNS Geelani while expressing his sorrow over the arrest of flood victims from Bandipora district who were scheduled to receive relief cheques and the kits at Hyderpora office of Central Relief Committee said, “It is sad that seven flood affected people from district Bandipora have been arrested by the police and stopped to reach here. People are in dire need of immediate aid and help in the shape of warm cloths, beddings and particularly the shelter but with our limited resources we are feeling very insufficient in this regard and instead of providing such help to the homeless and shelter less people, New Delhi has started arresting even those people who are begging for help.”“I am very much concerned about the people who have been rendered shelter less by the recent floods that how will they spend their life in this harsh season and how will they manage their livings,” he added.

The Hurriyat (G) chairman said that the relief provided by them is not any fovour to the people but it is all done on the humanitarian bases. “Relief provided by us is not our own but it is given by the kind people and we act only as mediators for this. Our workers and activists are working day and night to provide more and more help and aid to the effected people. We are trying our best to provide relief and help to the flood-hit people of Kashmir but the Delhi government is stopping us from this and with the announcement of election drama, they have started a worst kind of arrest spree, night raids and harassment of the family members of the pro-freedom people,” Geelani alleged.

Strongly condemning the house arrest of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat general secretary Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, arrest of Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar, Anantnag district president Mir Hafizullah, Mohammad Amin Ahangar secretary district Shopian, tehsil president Shopian Mohammad Amin Parray, tehsil president Sonawari Ghulam-du-din, Gh. Hassan dar Sonawari, Abdul Hameed Hajan, Bilal Ahmad Gojar, Saif-ud-din Mir and Habibullah Gojri, Geelani said, “The arrest at this time are totally unjustified and unwanted.”He also condemned the arrest of the pro-freedom leaders Shabir Ahmad Shah, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Nayeem Ahmad Khan and Abdullah Tari. “We are peacefully struggling against the occupation and we use no weapon to threaten the people for casting votes. We only humbly appeal people to stay away from the election drama which is held in presence of 7.5 lakh forces. Both election and boycott are the democratic right of every citizen and the Indian constitution also mention this but the enforcing agencies are doing contrary to that and they are using undemocratic and uncivilized ways for their personal gains,” he claimed.

Geelani also strongly condemned the raids of police at the residences of pro-freedom people and students including the residence of district president Srinagar Raja Mehraj-ud-din, secretary public relations Altaf Ahmad Shah, deputy secretary for medicine Mohammad Ashraf Laya, district president Kulgam Mohammad Shaban, district president Kupwara Mohammad Yousuf Lone, district president Bandipora Rayees Ahmad Mir, district secretary Salman Yousuf and many other activists.
