Continuing its relentless crackdown on absconding criminals, the Jalandhar Rural Police have apprehended two more Proclaimed Offenders (POs) as part of an ongoing special drive. With these arrests, the total number of POs nabbed in the past three and a half months has reached 60, reflecting the police’s commitment to bringing fugitives to justice.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Vijay Kumar, a resident of Ida village under Sadar Nakodar police station, and Sunny Singh, a resident of Kapurthala. Both had been declared POs by the courts under Section 299 CrPC for their involvement in serious offenses.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated that these arrests were made under the direct supervision of SP (Investigation) Jasroop Kaur Bath and DSP Nakodar Sukhpal Singh. “The police teams have been rigorously pursuing absconding criminals and using advanced techniques to track their movements. This drive will continue with the same intensity,” SSP Khakh said.

The first PO, Vijay Kumar, was wanted in a case registered under FIR No. 200 dated December 17, 2019, under Sections 21-61-85 of the NDPS Act at Sadar Nakodar police station. He was declared a PO on March 23, 2024, by the court of ASJ Tarn Taran Singh Bindra in Jalandhar. Vijay Kumar was arrested on November 27, 2024, by Nakodar Police team during a raid.

The second accused, Sunny Singh, was wanted in a case registered under FIR No. 67 dated 2018 under Sections 379, 482, and 34 of the IPC. He was apprehended by a special police team following extensive technical surveillance and intelligence gathering.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both accused had been evading arrest by frequently changing their locations. “Such operations will continue to track and apprehend all absconding offenders,” SSP Khakh added.

Both accused will be produced before the local court, and the police will seek their remand to further investigate their involvement in other crimes.
