Senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Maheshinder Singh Grewal today urged Punjab Pradesh Congress President Partap Singh Bajwa to look into his own family history as well as his recent misdeeds including grabbing village common land before trying to hold Revenue minister Bikram Majithia accountable for anything.In a statement here, the SAD leader said it was amazing that a person, whose family had a shady past including allegations of being in league with drug smugglers, was levelling allegations against Mr Majithia despite the fact that the same had been dismissed by the relevant courts.Referring to the past controversies which have dogged the PCC chief, Mr Grewal said “you yourself have been embroiled in the bitumen scam during your earlier tenure as PWD minister. Your name also cropped up prominently in the Gujarat call girl racket. Recently papers have been tabled in the Vidhan Sabha in which you are shown to have taken over village common land belonging to poor villagers adjoining Chandigarh. It would be best if you could explain your conduct in all these cases rather than trying to deflect attention from your own misdeeds by targeting others”.
Grewal termed the PCC President a “shameless loser” who led his own party to a rout in his wife’s assembly segment and lost in all nine assembly segments from the Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency. “The fact that you lost the seat by a huge margin of 1.36 lakh votes is a barometer of your popularity”, he said adding this was not the first time Bajwa had resorted to cheap gimmicks. “The PCC president has earlier knocked the door of the court on the drug issue but his plea was not entertained with the judiciary stating he should not bring his political fights into the courts”. Mr Maheshinder Grewal said in a democratic country like India there were two courts of people – the judiciary or the people’s court. “While the judiciary has rebuffed Bajwa’s attempts to pin down Mr Majithia by levelling false and baseless charges against him, the Revenue minister has passed the test of the people’s court”. The SAD leader said it was no mean achievement that Mr Majithia had been able to give a lead of nearly 21000 votes to the BJP Amritsar candidate from Majitha. “This lead is more than the lead of 16,000 votes and 20,000 votes given by the same assembly segment in 2006 and 2009”, he said.Urging Mr Partap Bajwa to set his own house in order and apologise to the Congress rank and file for his arrogant and high headed behaviour which had set 25 Congress legislators baying for his blood, the akali leader said the SAD knew about its duties and responsibilities and was fulfilling them to the hilt. “Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal stands for probity in public life unlike you (Bajwa) who has misused power for his own selfish personal needs only”, Mr Gewal added.
