Ajas town of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district is one of the towns of district that is not only backward as for as development is concerned but it also lags behind on every front. The successive district administration according to locals neglected this historic town that is the home of over twenty thousand people. From past one year, the only Higher Secondary School located in the town is without Principal while Education Department made no efforts to appoint the one for this Higher Secondary School despite repeated pleas from the locals. Education Department has also failed to provide a separate zone to the people of Ajas that have been fighting for it from past decade. “It is a known and old town and deserves a separate education zone,” the locals told news agency CNS.Ironically, the previous Omar Abdullah Government made it an Administrative Unit, but till date that Unit has not become properly functional. A Tehsildar sits there in a rented room where due to lack of space people are unable to visit.
“Degree Colleges were sanctioned for both Hajin and Ajas but ironically, the College at Hajin is scheduled to made functional but for the people of Ajas they have to wait as there is no such proposal for the government to make these colleges functional at the same time,” said a social activist from the town Haroon Nabi Lone. The locals said they fail to understand why district administration is callous towards their problems and needs. “Recently District Administration issued 20 dust bins for the town which were scheduled to be installed at different points, but till date not a single dust bin was provided to the town. The order it seems was issued on papers only,” said a respectable citizen from the town. There is a hospital in the town but without roads. “The roads leading to this hospital are dilapidated. This hospital has neither been upgraded nor equipped with latest technology. There is only one doctor for the whole town,” they said and sought intervention of district administration Bandipora. (CNS)
