Satya Pal Jain, Ex-MP and Chairman of the Social Welfare Committee constituted by the Administrator, Union Territory Chandigarh has said that there is urgent need of taking the various welfare schemes, being carried out by the Social Welfare Department of the U.T Chandigarh, to the people who actually need it so that they are able to get benefit of these schemes. He said that, for that purpose, the Social Welfare Committee shall launch a people awareness campaign and will itself go to the people to persuade them to take the benefit of these schemes.This was stated by Sh. Jain while presiding over the second meeting of the Social Welfare Committee in U.T Guest House last evening. Sh. Jain said that the Social Welfare Department of U.T Chandigarh has various schemes of public benefit, like old age pension of Rs. 1,000 per month, pension of widows and destitute women of Rs. 1,000 per month, pension to disabled persons Rs. 1.000 per month, financial assistance to children of widows and destitute women of Rs. 1,000 per month, Rs. 2.5 lac per couple for inter caste marriage, 50% subsidy on petrol to the disabled persons, Rs. 5,000 for girl child in Apni Beti Apna Dhan, Rs. 40,000 fixed deposit for a girl child under Hamari Beti Scheme and Rs. 30,000 cash award for the children of  Safai karmchari etc. etc. 

He said that though thousands of people are getting benefit under these schemes but still large number of people are not availing same. He said that for this purpose the Committee will carry out awareness campaign in entire Chandigarh and will also distribute pamphlets in Hindi and Punjabi for the knowledge of the people.Smt. Navjot Kaur, Director, Social Welfare Department gave the information about these schemes in detail and inform the committee members that by now about 22,000 people have availed the benefits of these schemes. She endorsed the view of Sh. Jain that in case more publicity is done this number can rise quite considerably.Amongst others, Mayor Davesh Moudgil, Smt. Sangeeta Vardhan, Smt. Shipra Bansal, Smt. Charan Kamal Kaur, Dr. Sheenu Aggarwal, Smt. Anamika Walia, Sh. Narinder Chaudhary, Smt. Renu Adiwal, Dr. Ramneek, Smt. Bhawna Tayal, Sh. Rishipal Sarin, Smt. Navjot Kaur, Director, Social Welfare and many other officials of the department also attended the meeting.
