The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) delegation led by President of the Mr. Narendra Batra called on Sports Minister, Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi. During the informal visit, Mr. Batra congratulated Rana Sodhi on becoming the Sports Minister of Punjab and said that it is an ominous sign for a player of international stature to be made the Sports Minister.Mr. Batra, who is also the President of International Hockey Federation (FIH), assured Rana Sodhi that full cooperation and assistance would be extended to Punjab with regard to the Olympic pattern sports and every necessary infrastructure would be made available to the State Government.Giving more details of the meeting, Rana Sodhi said that during the meeting the deliberations centred on undertaking specialized initiatives for lifting the sporting standard in Punjab. He further said that during the recent past the performance of players from Punjab has seen a decline at the international level sports competitions and his target is to restore Punjab to its old glory.
